World of Arin

Arin is a land within the realm known as the Otherworld to the Celtic culture of Earth. It exists in a region of paranormal spacetime parallel to the plane of existence Earth resides in, yet is linked to the normal universe by the Ley lines of planets, and by artificially created Gateways. Arin possesses theoretically infinite land area, and thirty moons of varying sizes and intervals of appearance in the skies. It is a world of vast enchanted oceans, deserts, glaciers, mountain ranges, grasslands, forests, rivers, and lakes. Power, a form of magic known to the Sidhe or Faery Folk of Earth legends, is abundant throughout the land, resulting in a world of such incredible beauty and magic that for thirty thousand years not even the legendary Sidhe would tamper with it, choosing instead to live in other lands and merely visit. Over the ages however, Humans and a wide variety of other races found their way to Arin through the Ley lines and natural Gateways between Earth and Arin. Humans, Elves, Gnomes, Dryads, Imps, Pixies, Trolls, Goblins, and all manner of supernatural entity crossed over, drawn by the inexorable pull of Arin's Power. Sorcerers also came, from a dozen worlds and realities, reveling in the strength of magical forces.

In the present, castles, cities, villages, and other manner of settlements exist scattered throughout the largely unexplored world, and trade between the established civilizations is common. Sorcerers and Sorceresses, or Power Wielders as they are known to the well educated, are still somewhat uncommon and although each generation produces a greater number, they are still viewed with a mixture of awe and fear by the population at large.

Races of Arin

Over the centuries, the gates and Ley lines have permitted all imaginable races and animals of magical and mundane nature to take up residence in Arin, including Humans, Elves, Sidhe, Dwarves, Gnomes, Sylphs, Salamanders, Undines, Centaurs, Merfolk, Dragons, Unicorns, Hobbits, Winged Humans, Pixies, Nymphs, Demons, Undead skeletons, vampires, and all other lifeforms and undead.

In general, if it exists somewhere, somewhen, in some reality, it has found its way to Arin.

Monetary System

Due to the ability of Power Wielders to create gold, silver, gemstones, and all other things living and non-living, the only remaining valuable resources are foods, of which there is greater demand than Wielders can supply for, Power Wielding services, and stored Power. A system has been established wherein gemstones and coins charged with varying amounts of Power are exchanged as currency, since Power itself cannot be created, only gathered over a period of time by Wielders. The value of a charged coin or gemsone is stated in Power Measures (equal to the number of Power Points), and may be tested by sprinkling iron filings upon an item; iron is patterned across its surface, and the amount of iron adhering to the surface indicates the amount of Power stored within it.

Coins of 1, 5, 10, 100, 1000, and 10000 Power Measures are commonly in use, and are most often of gold or silver.

Enchanted items are also exchanged in barter, and sold by Power Wielders for profit, making Wielders among the wealthiest of citizens in communities.

Some natural deposits of crystal, stone, and metals have naturally occurring Power Reservoirs, which adds profit to mining operations.

The Sun

The sun shining in the skies of Arin, is a silvery white radiant energy source of unknown composition, size, and distance, about which Arin, its moons, and the stars orbit. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
